AAA Honour H.H. Mar Dinkha IV

The Assyrian Australian Association (AAA) extended an invitation to His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, His Grace Mar Emmanuel Joseph, Bishop of Canada, and His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon.

The gathering, on 1 October at St. Mary Church Hall in Smithfield, was attended by Dinkha Warda, president of AAA, who spoke on the activities and events that the organisation hosts for the community.

Mr Warda said AAA communicates regularly with government associations, produces print publications and radio programs, and has been involved in three Sydney streets being allocated Assyrian names. Additionally, AAA incorporates sub-committees in different sections of the community, has established the Assyrian Diqlat School, and has been involved with St. Mary Church since the 1970s.

Also speaking at the event, His Beatitude Mar Meelis said the church has had substantial interaction with the Association throughout the years, which has created close ties between both sides. He further went on to express the future plans of the Association and highlighted the Nineveh Lounge as a future social centre.

His Beatitude thanked AAA for allowing Mar Narsai Assyrian College to utilise the Nineveh Lounge building until the school’s permanent premises are built.

His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV then gave the keynote address, in which he spoke about the community in a religious and social sense.

Placing an emphasis on unity between all Assyrian nationalistic organisations, His Holiness said there will be a stronger voice when we stand together; for when we unite, our nation strengthens.

His Holiness prayed for peace and unity across all nations and churches.
