Assyrian Democratic Movement Delegation Calls on His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia Metropolitan

His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon welcomed a delegation from the Assyrian Democratic Movement (ADM) to the Sydney Archbishopric.

The visiting delegation included Fared Jacob Eliya and Adad Yousef, Central Committee members of the ADM visiting from Iraq.

The purpose of the meeting, held on 28 January 2012, was to discuss the condition of the Assyrian people in the Middle East, developments on the national and regional political scene and the impact of these developments on Christians residing in these areas.

Also discussed was the development of the Syriac language education system in Iraq and the positive impact this development will have on Assyrians residing in Iraq.

The Metropolitan provided an overview of the work of the Assyrian Church of the East in Australia and the leading role played by the Holy Church in providing services to the local community though schools and other educational facilities.

Other attendees at the meeting included Emmanuel Sada, George Adam and Sarkis Youkhana, representing the Sydney Chapter of the ADM.

In closing their audience with the Metropolitan, the delegation presented to His Beatitude two school books used in Iraq by students of the Syriac language.
