Barwar Association Honours H.H. Mar Dinkha IV

The charitable society of the Barwar Association has held a honorary dinner for His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, and His Grace Mar Emmanuel Joseph , during their sojourn to Australia.

Accompanied by His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon, the visiting prelates attended the event on 3 October.

President of the Barwar Association, Elias Shamon, officially welcomed His Holiness and guests to Australia and their function, on behalf of the association and its members. He went on to state the duties and charitable events of the association and where the donations are directed to, namely the needy Assyrians living in the Middle East.

His Beatitude Mar Meelis recognised the support given by the Association and its members to the church, along with many other associations that work hand in hand with the church throughout all its projects and events.

His Holiness then gave the keynote address where he gave his gratitude for the organisation of the honorary dinner, where he was able to meet many faithful.

Detailing his last visit to Barwar, the village from which the Association derives, His Holiness mentioned the beauty, scenery and ancestral linkage according to the old churches and buildings in the regions.

The administrative board of the Barwar Association then presented gifts and souvenirs to His Holiness, His Grace and His Beatitude as a thank you for taking the time to visit the congregation.
