Reverend Paulus Benjamin, parish priest of Mar Gewargis Cathedral, has been elevated to the rank of ChorBishop for the Diocese of Eastern USA, Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East.
His Grace Mar Awa Royel, Bishop of California and the Secretary of the Holy Synod, led the ‘laying on of hands’, which took place by the directive of His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch.
The ordination liturgy began at 9am, on 20 March, and was well attended by hundreds of parishioners from all over Chicago.
At the same service, a young faithful named Esam Youkhanna was ordained as sub-deacon.
ChorBishop Polos was ordained priest on 13 September, 2001 by His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch, at Mar Gewargis Cathedral in Chicago.
