Prayer Memorials for the Late Mar Narsai DeBaz Held by Churches and Schools

Hundreds of people attended a memorial service at the St Hurmizd Assyrian cathedral of Greenfield Park in Sydney’s west on Tuesday (16th). The service was in remembrance of H.B Mar Narsai DeBaz, the Metropolitan of Lebanon, Syria and all Europe for the Assyrian church of the East.

People also lay flowers and wreaths on the cathedral gates along with messages and cards of sympathy. Among the attendees local Assyrian organisations and politicians payed their respects. Priests from the Ancient church of the East of Sydney were also present.

The Assyrian Church of the East has now entered into its 6th day of the Great Fast and yet during this fast, the faithful not only grieve over their sins but now also mourn for the loss of one of their dear Church Fathers; His Beatitude; the late Mar Narsai DeBaz.

Ss. Peter and Paul Parish conducted prayer service in the English language, lead by the Parish Priest, Rev. Genard Lazar, in honour of the late Metropolitan of the Assyrian Church of the East in Lebanon Syria and Greater Europe, commencing at 8pm at St Hurmizd’s Cathedral in Sydney.

Reverend Genard presented a short eulogy on the life of the simple, meek and zealous Metropolitan, whom had lived a life of sacrifice for his Church and in which; continuously fought the spiritual battle for the edification of the international Church.

Parish president Mr. Chris Goffett presented a short speech on the character of the late Metropolitan and accordingly, the early life and detailed history of Mar Narsai DeBaz was presented by Lector Robert Khnanisho being portrayed through a picture slide show to the musical song: “give me Jesus”

An array of flowers and condolence letters from sister Churches, various church members and Assyrian cultural societies have been placed at the base of the altar in honour & remembrance of the late Church father.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the late Metropolitan and to our brothers and sisters worldwide. We too, pray for our Church Prelates that they may find the hope in Christ during this time of fasting.

May the Lord rest his soul and reward him in the kingdom of heaven according to countless blessings he continuously bestows upon this Church and nation. Amen.
