San Diego Church Marks Feast of the Holy Cross

“Thy Cross, O our Lord, let it be to us as a high wall for those who glorify Thee; for by it (the Holy Cross), we may be protected from the wounds inflicted by the evil-one. In the Feast of the Holy Cross, the celestial beings with audible voice sing out Hallelujah, blessed is the Cross; and we together with them sing in audible voice, saying hallelujah, worshipful is thy discovery, O Holy Cross.”

St. Hurmizd Church in San Diego, California has organized its first ever book fair on the occasion of the Feast of the Discovery of the Holy Cross.

The Feast of the Holy Cross is one of seven major feast days in the ecclesiastical calendar of the Assyrian Church of the East, celebrated each year in September.

The Assyrian Church of the East also considers ‘the sign of the life giving Cross’ to be one of its seven holy sacraments.

The book fair, organized by the San Diego congregation, commenced on Sunday 11 September 2011 and continued on for three days.

The conclusion of the fair fell on the Feast Day with the Eucharistic Liturgy being consecrated at 6pm. A lecture entitled ‘The Cross’ was given following the Liturgy.
