Telkaif Students Complete Summer School

The Assyrian Church of the East in Telkaif, Iraq, has congratulated its summer school graduates following the offering of the Holy Eucharist by Reverend Cor-Bishop Benyamin Yosip in St Mary Church.

The 10-week course, which concluded on 15 August, attracted 200 students from the Assyrian Church of the East and the Ancient Church of the East in Telkaif, Iraq, and was organized by the Youth Association of Telkaif.

Divided into seven classes, the students ranged from kindergarten-age to older age groups. The classes were led by Rev. Mattai Beto, Deacon Atniel and other teachers that specialize in teaching the Christian faith.

The course included Christian and biblical studies, Church hymns and prayers and Assyrian language studies. Besides theoretical studies, many fun and recreational games were also organized for the students.

To celebrate the completion of the summer course, a graduation ceremony was held during which each student was awarded a gift. The students then showed their gratitude by applying their new knowledge in a closing play entitled ‘Smile, God loves you’.

Thanksgiving was offered to Rev. Mattai for his hard work and effort in organizing and presenting the structured classes. Further thanks were offered to all the teachers, staff, parents and children in making this year’s summer school an excellent experience.

Following the graduation ceremony, games and activities were organized to entertain the students and congratulate them in completing their summer studies. Further hymns and prayers were offered by some outstanding students who showed what they have learnt.

Special thanks were given to the civil society organisations of Duhok for their continual support of such activities.
