Barwar Association Meets H.B. Mar Meelis Zaia

The Barwar Association has visited His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon, on the occasion of the Holy Nativity of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Association, which is headed by President Elias Shimon, undertakes many charitable activities for the high demand of need by our people in the homeland.

The Association extended their well wishes to His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV Catholicos Patriarch on this holy occasion, asking the Lord to protect and guide all those who work in the field of His church.

His Beatitude, outlining the priorities of the church in Sydney, spoke on the planned Horsley Park construction of Mar Narsai Assyrian College in early 2013. He went on to talk about the fruits of the College, as seen through this year’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) results. A graduate of the school, Youhan Cheery, achieved an impressive 97.7 ATAR while many other students also achieved outstanding results.

However, His Beatitude stressed the need for parental guiding and discipline in order to support this generation in being educated and respectable. Education in the church and nation are two important aspects that parents should encourage their children to take part in.

Presenting a speech to the Ishtar TV station, His Beatitude bestowed blessings for the Holy Feast and the 2012 New Year to all viewers, especially to those that reside in the Middle East through this time of unrest. His Beatitude prayed for peace and harmony throughout the world, with particular concerns for the homeland. He hoped for a state of stability in the Middle East; politically, economically and in safety.

The meeting was also attended by Rev. Narsai Youkhanis, chaplain for the Sydney and Melbourne Youth Association and The Assyrian Schools.
