His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East arrived in Australia Wednesday to commence a month-long Apostolic sojourn.

His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East arrived in Australia Wednesday to commence a month-long Apostolic sojourn.

Welcoming His Holiness at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport was His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon, parish priests and the principals of the Assyrian Schools; St. Hurmizd Assyrian Primary School and Mar Narsai Assyrian College.

Accompanying His Holiness during the visit is His Grace Mar Emmanuel Joseph, Bishop of Canada.

During his visit, His Holiness will preside over the inaugural graduation of Mar Narsai Assyrian College’s class of 2011. The function, to be held on Wednesday 21 September, will see gifts presented to graduates and faithful from His Holiness.

The Catholicos Patriarch will consecrate the first Eucharistic Liturgy of the visit at St. Hurmizd Cathedral in Greenfield Park on Sunday 11 September, being the First Sunday of Elijah in the ecclesiastical calendar.

The visit will also include the consecration of the Eucharistic Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church in Fairfield as well as a trip to the Melbourne congregation of the Assyrian Church of the East for a number of functions.

The Apostolic sojourn will conclude on Wednesday 5 October, with His Holiness and His Grace Mar Emmanuel departing en route to Chicago via California.
