St George’s Altar Consecrated

Parishioners of St George’s Church in Ceres, California have gathered to witness the consecration of the new altar at the church.

The consecration, held on the evening of Monday, the 25 of April—the feast day of Mar Gewargis the Martyr—was well needed seeing as the altar of the church was heavily renovated along with other small parts of the church.

His Grace Mar Awa Royel, Bishop of the Diocese of California for the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, conducted the consecration of the altar.

On the same day, the Church celebrated the Commemoration of the parish’s patron saint, St George the Martyr. After the consecration of the altar and the Holy Qurbana, the faithful present participated in the commemoration meal of the saint (dukhrana).

The joyous and memorable day was attended by Archdeacon Nenos Michael, parish priest of Mar Narsai Church in San Francisco; Cor-Bishop Auchana Kanoun, parish priest of St George’s Church in Ceres; along with many deacons and hundreds of faithful members of the Church from the Central Valley and surrounding cities.
