Sydney Youth Holds Carnival Fundraiser

The 2012 Youth Conference Sub-Committee of the Assyrian Church of the East’s Youth Association in Sydney has successfully held a Youth Conference Carnival Fundraiser.

The carnival was held on 8 January 2012 to raise funds for the upcoming Youth Conference in July; the first conference in the Archdiocese comprising of youth members from Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Auckland, Wellington and all parts of Lebanon.

The carnival took place at the Assyrian Australian Social Centre (former Nineveh Club), commencing at 10:30 AM through to late afternoon.

A variety of foods, sweets, rides and entertainments were organised for Sydney parishioners and the wider community. Activities included the teacup and saucepan ride, pony rides, jumping castles and face painters, all of which entertained the children. Additionally, parishioners enjoyed festival foods such as fairy floss, popcorn, slushies and snow ones.

A special thanks was given to the ladies committee of St. Hurmizd Cathedral and St. Mary Church for their hard work and dedication towards the carnival.

Thanks were also extended to Robert Gewargis for providing music and entertainment, as well as many community members for the donation of sweets.

A surprise visitor to the event was a colourful and playful clown who placed smiles and at the same time tears of fear on the faces of some children (and a few adults!) as he distributed helium filled balloons.
