H.B. Mar Meelis Visits Iraqi Ambassador, Beirut

His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon, has led the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in a meeting with the Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon.

The meeting took place in the capital city Beirut, on 20 January, and included the presence of Archdeacon Ammanuel Betyou and Reverend Sapar, parish priests of St George’s Church in Beirut.

His Beatitude, currently on an official visit to Lebanon, was warmly welcomed by the Ambassador and all delegates present at the Embassy.

His Beatitude thanked the Iraqi Embassy for their continual help in protecting Christians in Iraq and providing safety and stability for their future, both in schools and the workplace.

The aid and help offered by the Embassy further stresses the importance of Iraqi Christians remaining in the homeland, in the hope that the situation will calm, allowing peace and love to be restored for future generations.

In return, the Ambassador thanked His Beatitude Mar Meelis for the continuous help and aid given by the Church of the East Relief Organization (ACERO) to Christians living in the Middle East.

“We need to continue to help our fellow Christians to ensure their security and stability, which is the ultimate guarantee of unity for Iraq and its people,” said the Ambassador.
