His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia AM has paid a visit to the faithful of the Assyrian Church of the East residing in the United Arab Emirates.
Arriving in Dubai on 10 February, His Beatitude, accompanied by a number of church faithful from the Assyrian Church of the East in Beirut, met with notable Assyrians from Iraq, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia who are working and residing in Dubai.
On the second day of his pastoral visit, His Beatitude, the Metropolitan of Australia, New Zealand and Lebanon, visited a number of landmarks in Dubai. A dinner gathering was arranged in the City Centre Hotel and was attended by about 60 faithful of the Assyrian Church of the East, including faithful of the church from India.
Rev. Sachin Timothy, joint-vicar of the Assyrian Church of the East’s St. Mary’s Mission in the United Arab Emirates was also present to receive the Metropolitan. His Beatitude delivered the keynote address in which he updated the faithful on the situation of the church in both Australia and Lebanon.
During his three-day sojourn, His Beatitude visited with a number of Assyrian families before departing en route to Australia.
St. Mary’s Mission of the Assyrian Church of the East in the UAE was established following the visit of His Beatitude Dr. Mar Aprem, Metropolitan of Malabar and India in 2005.
With the blessing of His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch and under the administration of His Beatitude Dr. Mar Aprem Metropolitan, the Mission caters to the pastoral needs of a large number of faithful from India living and working in the UAE.
Although the Mission currently uses the facilities of a sister-church for its services, it is envisaged that in future permanent facilities shall be available for the ongoing use of the Mission.
