A spiritual themed summer camp, organized by St. George Cathedral, Chicago, has been active in building the faith of the growing generation.
The five-week camp, which concluded on 29 July, was guided, supervised and presented by volunteer teachers, including Mary Younan and Najiba Samuel, with the aid of the parish’s youth group.
Camp participants included 56 children aged between 5 and 12 years; a representation of the next generation of the Assyrian Church of the East.
The main objectives of the camp were to build the Christian faith of the children, allowing them the opportunity to develop their understanding according to their capabilities.
Additionally, the camp lessons included cultural education specializing in our Assyrian language and heritage; as well as increasing the linkage and relationships between the children of the church with the aim of encouraging a unified and loving generation to grow and build their personalities as young Assyrian Americans.
The committee prepared a closing celebration for the students and parents, during which students performed hymns and prayers in the presence of priests, deacons and parents.
