Stockholm’s Christian Assyrian community has remembered the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with celebrations in the lead up to Christmas, preceded over by His Grace Mar Odisho Oraham, Bishop of Europe.
Children, parents and the elderly gathered in St Thomas’ Parish in Sweden’s capital city on the evening of Sunday 19 December 2010, with the sole purpose of glorifying the Lord.
While the westernized world has come to forget the true meaning of Christmas, the evening allowed the faithful to put Christ first, followed by the modern tradition of Santa Clause.
The congregation was blessed with the presence of His Grace Mar Odisho, accompanying the Church Choir by playing the piano during the performance of Christmas carols.
His Grace’s participation added a very warming touch to the carols, as he expressed his well-known love for music and the need for harmony, both musically and spiritually.
Carols were sung and hymns were offered in the glorification of the new covenant of grace. Many clergy and faithful attended, filling the atmosphere with Christmas spirit, together in love and unity.
At the conclusion of the program, the faithful gathered in fellowship for tea and coffee in the church hall, which gave them the opportunity to share in their love and respect for one another as one family, one church and one body being the church of Christ.
