Celebrations for the graduating class of the St Thomas Parish Assyrian School have commenced with congratulations from His Grace Mar Odisho Oraham, Bishop of Europe.
The graduation followed the Holy Feast of the Pentecost, where the Holy Eucharist was offered by His Grace at St Thomas Parish in Stockholm, Sweden.
His Grace preached the importance of the Holy Spirit descending unto the disciples and the major role it played and continues to play in establishing and strengthening the Church today.
At the conclusion of the Holy Mysteries, the faithful gathered in the church hall where they fellowshipped and shared the love of Christ together on this joyous feast.
His Grace along with Rev. Nelos Poulis, parish priest of St Thomas Parish, then awarded graduating certificates to all the students of the Assyrian School.
The school is run all-year round, teaching the Assyrian language to the future generation of the Church, stressing the importance of the language in our Church, its significance and regard as the Pearl; the language that Christ spoke Himself.
His Grace thanked all the teachers, parents and volunteers for their continual hard work throughout the year.
Additionally, His Grace noted the school not only teaches language, but at the same time instills faith. While the purpose of the school has mainly been to teach the language and faith, it has also grown a love for the church in each and every student’s heart.
As the summer holidays have now commenced, the school shall reopen on the first Sunday of September with new and fresh faces eager to learn what the school has to offer.
